Who can help? Mental Health Awareness Week

There is help at hand.

It might be hard to believe, but a staggering 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem each year.

This week from 9th May, Mind launches its Mental Health Awareness Week campaign, urging anyone going through a difficult time or struggling with their mental health to reach out for help.

As with most therapists, myself included, Mind hopes to change the way people think and speak about mental health problems and encourage people to reach out for support with whatever they are going through instead of trying to mask their issues on their own, hiding behind a coping ‘smile’.

Don’t suffer in silence

Many people who suffer from their mental health suffer silently. This often leads to feelings of intense isolation, negative self-judgment, and shame. This can largely be avoided by seeking professional help, either through an organisation such as Mind, your local GP, or the many therapists that are available to help.

Call for a helping hand

Mind has a confidential Infoline available on 0300 123 3393, Monday-Friday, 9am-6pm and there is great information to be found on their website - mind.org.uk.

Anxiety and Depression

Anxiety and depression are perhaps the most everyday problems we have with mental health and can be viewed as having a fear of the future or no hope for the future. In 2013, there were 8.2 million cases of known anxiety in the UK. We can only imagine what that figure will be now, post pandemic. Cognitive Hypnotherapy

Cognitive Hypnotherapy can also help, especially if someone is suffering from negative self-talk, limiting beliefs and an overall lack of self-esteem. This type of therapy can help you “re-write” the story you tell yourself by accessing and reframing your subconscious mind. It can work wonders by taking you out of the “trance” of bad habits, negative thinking and self-imposed limitations, helping to push the refresh button on your life.
